Bought a grab one deal. Supposed to be $45 for 2 tasting paddles and and any item off the Bar menu per person. On arrival...after specially booking ... we were given the worst table in the place and informed that not only could we not have our choice from the menu...but only choose between the fries or the garlic bread. And only 1 item between 2 people...not each as per the deal. (The deal even has the menu options attached.)
Am beyond disappointed. If the deal was supposed to win them more customers they have failed miserably. We definitely won't ever go back.

Neat atmosphere can definitely tell she's a piece of history lol. Service was alright. Staff may have had enough for the day. We bought a 3 course meal from grab one it was soooo so good!! Food looked great and was very delicious!

Not sure how you run a pub but close the kitchen before closing time. I think Kiwis have lost the concept of how business works. Provide and people will keep coming stop and I don't come again.

Kitchen closed 815pm. Anywhere in the world that is when people start eating. Drink and food. Simple pub recipe.

We had pnlya beer in the pub. But the home made beer Was great and the stuff was very friendly. The house looks great with a lot of history. I can recommend this place fora beer and I think the food must be fine as well.

If you like a charming, historical, old fashion little boutique hotel with a glorious past and a very good pub and restaurant, this is the right place! Not to mention the amazing and super convenient location!
The rooms, however, are very small and definitely old fashioned: but this is part of the charm.
Not recommended to people who have issues climbing the stairs (there is no lift).

The atmosphere was nice, staff friendly and prices OK. Table pool appreciated too, we had a nice time playing and drinking beers there.
Kitchens close early, be careful if you're hungry when you go there ;)

Stopped by on a rainy weekend afternoon for a quick lunch. Staff not particularly friendly but helpful and quick service so no problem. Small little pub feel with high tables and billiards and some background music. Local made beers. $20NZD for banners and mash with a draft beer is a great deal in Auckland. Bet was nice and good was well presented and tasty. We enjoyed our visit and would do but again if we are on the area.

Commenting solely on the pub part of the business which is the most relevant. It's a lovely place to hang out. The craft beer (brewed onsite) is excellent and great value. The food is not amazing but decent. Service good.

Popped in for a meal as we walked past. Family of 4. Food came quickly even though they appeared busy, ribs were nice and soft, the fish and chips well cooked and the burger and chips was more than a mouth full.

The 125 year old Shakespeare Hotel & Brewery is worth a try. Absolutely great choices of local craft beers in New Zealand's oldest micro brewery. Rustic interior combined with local athmosphere makes the time spent worthwhile. My favourite choice of beer is the IPA but they offer a variety of great beers for almost every taste... have a try yourself - cheers !

The ribs and lamb shank were great, as was the share platter.
The chicken cordon bleu was overcooked, but okay.
They were short-staffed so service was slow but the guys were very friendly and apologetic.
We didn't stay at the hotel, just used the restaurant.

We had stayed here before. Quaint, old and reasonably clean. This time we had an intruder come through our window at 0400. Also, the bubbly given to as part of our stay was bad. When I notified the manager he was apologetic but nothing more.

Avoid this place.

Bad place. Tried to use a grab one voucher purchased as a gift for me. Between Grabone and the bar couldn't work it out. Neither wanted to refund they just blamed eachother.

We booked dinner for seven of us at 7.15pm. On arrival staff told us there would be a 45 minute wait so took our order straight away. After an hour and 45 minutes, staff admitted when questioned they hadn't started on our order. Walked out hungry and took business elsewhere.

Consider this an opportunity to up your game Shakespeare.

I was only in the bar so I can't speak for the hotel rooms or service, however the bartenders were real nice and sociable. Their signature beers were delicious a d I'd recommend to any visitor as it is a somewhat historic location as well being the first brewery in nz

This is the worst place I have ever stayed hygiene wise. My partner and i arrived to a pretty dirty room where
-there was a thick layer of dust and socks from a previous guest behind the fridge
-dirt and dust on every surface, skirting and window tracks
-mould in the shower as well as brown water marks on the walls
-grime build up in the bowl of the toilet
Asked for a vacuum and wipe down of surfaces but came back to an unchanged room. Thank fu€k the bed sheets were clean or i couldn't have slept there.
So disappointing because the location is great, the staff were super friendly and the building is so beautiful, but the place is in desperate need of some love. Sad.
