Great atmosphere & beers, but the meal was terrible!!! 1st time I've ever had a chicken schnitzel meal arrive with the chicken cut up !!! It was a very poor meal and overpriced for what you got, or should I say didn't get !!! It was the cut up chicken and about a quarter of of a cup of raw salad with no dressing- that was it !!!!

Accommodation was clean and tidy and spacious and great to be able to take the dog. Decor could do with being refreshed - carpets and curtains look like they've had better days.
Food was average and took over an hour to arrive.

What a find! Upbeat bar and restaurant. Good food. Pleasant accommodations. Friendly staff. I guess you'd call it rustic kiwiana, the way things were before all the corporates started flashing it up a bit. I've spent most of my life in Novotel box suites and I wouldn't swap the best of that for a night at the Salty Dog Inn. Get into it!

Great friendly staff, clean comfortable rooms. Room 10 had its own private balcony off to the side. Great for a night away. The food was delicious.

Loved 😍 our stay here an ideal location for a quick getaway from Auckland. The food was great and given how busy the staff were with a function the service was still wonderful

Just a minute away from the beach and tucked away behind Liquorland is this very cute inn. Lynn took care of us and she was incredible. The main building/pub is big and gorgeous, with classic, high quality pub grub. The rooms are separate from the pub building, which gives you a bit of distance from any noise. Only problem with the room was there were a couple of spiders in it, but it was the night before NYE and you can't stop nature.

So close to Auckland and then everything around Matakana and Warkworth. You could walk to Brick Bay Winery. I didn't realise you can bring dogs, which makes it the perfect easy weekend away. A great place to spend a night or 2 as you explore the area. Clean large rooms. En suite with gardens and pathways for kids to scoot and skate. Will definitely be back.

A handy spot and reasonably sized rooms. The bathroom was in need of a thorough clean and there was NO service. Had to check in at a desk in a bar. Asked for someone to come and get our TV going but no-one came. Terribly understaffed. Comfortable beds, so fine for one night.

A group of us went to the bar for a meal, everyone else enjoyed there meal, but the Mussel Fritters were definitely not what I expected.. there was only one huge fritter which was far more dough than mussel.. definitely not what I expected.

This review is for their food and drinks. We didn't plan on going here , but with the cafe we planned to go to having only counter food available that day we decided to have our lunch here. The guy behind the bar was very friendly and accommodating, our food and drinks arrived together, in a good time frame and the food was hot and delicious (lamb shanks, carbonara and a scotch fillet) and we all enjoyed our meals. Will definitely be back.

We went to the Salty Dog in for dinner Thursday evening. I had rung and booked a table. We arrived to an attractive building with loads of free parking although there's no lighting in the carpark which was a bit tricky. Dining room is separate from the bar so was quiet. Excellent service, extensive menu and the mains were beyond what you expect of pub food.

The desserts and coffee however were disappointing. The lemon pie filling was tasty but the pastry thick and soggy. The tiramisu was tasteless.

Jugs hang from the ceiling which is fun. The tables are spaces out which felt safe. We sat by the window and noticed bird pooh on the inside window frame and cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling. Other than that everything appeared clean.
Best things about the Salty Dog - delicious mains and friendly service.

Throughly enjoyed our stay here, the rooms are spacious, warm and had a very nice sleep. Air conditioning with a TV that has Netflix and other services to keep the kids entertained. The restaurant had very delicious food and were generous with the portions and the prices. Staff were also helpful and friendly to make sure our needs were met. Definitely recommend staying here and looking forward to coming back again.
