Stopped in for some bar snacks and a couple of drinks before the drive home. Great open outdoor area on a nice day. Friendly bar staff and bar snacks were reasonably priced and tasty. Will definitely be back!

Called in for some lunch. Casual, friendly pub. Food we had was delicious and good portion size.

Had a lovely Sunday roast here and it was delicious. A nice atmosphere (a good fire going in the winter!) and a good selection of drinks.

Wonderful experience had. The food was delicious and came out quickly. Drinks were great as was service. Enjoyed playing pool while waiting for dinner service to start and would definitely return and recommend.

if there is a better pub in the south island i didn't find it. great commitment to live music, large space. indoors out doors, all good

Ended up cancelling a booking due to the hotel being unwilling to accommodate one of a couple of minor requests for the room setup. No compromise or meeting in the middle. I also had an unpleasant email response which was cold and showing no desire to work together. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this hotel.

I liked the room (6), unfortunately the side window frame broke in the wind and had to be boarded up - not a major drama because my niece and I loved staying in the historic building. We dined in on Saturday night - I was very disappointed with the Chicken Salad ($26) Heaps of lettuce drowned in Mustard dressing, a generous amount of cherry tomatoes and about 12 small pieces of chicken (roll?) thrown on top. I requested no avocado or onion. I would not order this dish again and the sea food chowder was a bit short on a variety of seafood (plenty of fish) swimming in a large bowl of what looked like a very thick soup. So I would stay in the hotel again but not eat there

Went to the grand for lunch I had mussels and partner had lamb salad both were excellent , great out door area and game area for kids, was so good went back and had meal tonight. Highly recommend and try the mussels

We didn't stay the night just came in for lunch with the family. The people at the bar lovely and friendly and food was a good price for the area. However the food was inedible we ordered alot of food the chicken pieces where dry and very very salty, the bangers and mash also very salty and had some strange taste I couldn't figure out what. The burger was horrendous and only took two bites out of it and the patty was oddly slimmy. The picture attached is what we left cause we couldn't eat it, noone came up and asked how it was going and when we went in to talk they where busy so couldn't leave a complaint with them.

Solid pub grub, great to see some smiling friendly staff, brilliant live music and looks like the beer garden reno is going to be epic....great to see the old girl coming alive

Really enjoyed staying at the Grand Hotel. Quality accommodation, good pub and beer garden, and great live music ! On behalf of our group I would also like to thank the staff , who excelled.

We arrived from the Christchurch Airport on a late flight from Auckland and drove apprehensively to The Grand Hotel Akaroa. We didn't know what to expect as it was off season and it had snowed that day. A young lady had rung us to say she would let us in as the usual person had been snowed in and wasn't able to meet us. So I would like to give and extra half star for this young ladies service. Our room was servisable but cold. But what do you expect from an old pub. We got what we paid for.

The Grand Hotel Akaroa is not grand.
My wife and I stayed for two nights in early Oct 2022. At NZ$160/night, it was not expensive nor cheap. Like many other accom venues, the online photos depicted a room that was in much better condition and larger than reality.
For the fist night the WiFi advertised was not working but did work for our second night. The hair dryer did not ever work, even after being raised with management.
The toilet seat was of cheap, poor quality and was broken when we arrived. This was dangerous. After management repaired it on day two, it immediately failed again.
The on-site restaurant food ranged from poor to average. Suggest you avoid the cauliflower wings.
I'm pretty sure we were the only guests and i understand why.
The town of Akaroa is lovely and we decided to stay three more days - at other local accommodation.
Never The Grand again.

Only had a few drinks in the bar, staff were great. It might not be the prettiest place in the world but has lots of live music and its your typical nz establishment for a small town. Had a nice time.

Really clean rooms, nice sheets, great price.
The pub downstairs was buzzing. Live music from 4-7 on Saturdays, watched the rugby and had some awesome platters.
