Asked to Leave early
My friends and I were looking for somewhere to watch the Australia V England world cup soccer match so I rang ahead early in the day to see if the Brickworks would be showing the game and staying open late, given the late kick off at 10pm NZ time. I was assured they would be, as was my friend who also rang later in the day to ask the same question. When we arrived at the pub at 21:30 and ordered drinks and food we were informed by the bar staff that they might be closing early. I mentioned the fact they had confirmed on two occasions earlier that day that they would be staying open for the game, but I got a vague reply around not having enough customers to cover the cost of the having staff on at that stage. At that point there was about 10 customers in the pub which reduced to 5 of us about 15 minutes into the game at which point we were told the pub was closing in 20 minutes. I guess my point is (1) don't say you're going to be open for the match and then turn around when paying customers turn up saying you are going to close (2) Adhere to your trading hours listed on the door if you have even one customer in the bar (it says 11pm on the door and on google) and (3) don't start cleaning up around the customer as they try to enjoy their pint, it kills the atmosphere an reinforces the notion you want them to hurry up and leave !! A bit of customer service goes a long way and the Brickworks would pay well to indulge in a bit.
