We were a large group. I called a few days earlier and was told because they already had 2 large groups they couldn't accommodate us. They suggested the bar area. We arrived, had a corner of reserved tables and can't rave enough about our experience. We would do this again in preference to eating in the restaurant. Well done Avonhead Tavern, you went above and beyond. Highly recommend

Food cold!
We were confronted by "manager" to stress that our waitress was new...felt like we were being told off for complaining about our cold meals. One guest requested it be taken back and heated, problem was by the time she got to eat we were finished our meals.
Very disappointing and an unpleasant experience.
Surprised that staff don't have name badges etc, especially the manager on shift perhaps this is something that needs considering especially if patrons are chastised for not seeking 'the Manager"
Won't be back for both cold food and very poor service!

Great experience until our meals came out. No service check in throughout the meal. Asked for medium steak and got blue steak. Large tables around us made it hard to enjoy dining experience.

Wonderful friendly and timely service and fabulous food. Terrific pricing for such delicious food. Great menu caters for all dietary requirements. Nice atmosphere.

The staff were lovely but the food was disgusting. I didn't say anything to them as my daughter is a waitress in town, so I didn't want to make them feel bad. I had the ribeye steak ($39) which was raw. I asked for medium and got very rare and gristly. The salad was limp and saturated, the baked potato was very average, it just had sour cream and bacon pieces on it. The only decent thing was the Steinlager ($11). I wish I hadn't come. Clearly the cooks don't try their own food.

Loved this pub. Generous food, good service and golf. Only pub in NZ that has 4 golf simulators. Pinballs too. Feels very friendly.

My first time ever in an indoor golf venue, and I had to come to New Zealand to do it. It was great great fun, my shocking golf aside. A bit of golf, a few beers, what better way to while away a couple of hours with my sons. Very good value for money.

A very friendly general manager, (who was very busy, but still made our visit enjoyable) great steak, value for money and loved the music. We will definitely be back thank you.

Booked in on the date for dinner for four and had a scratchy toddler with me. They were super accommodating and really patient with my daughter. The staff were really kind to her. The food was delicious and service was quick and friendly.

Our work social club had arranged an evening for dinner and drinks and the customer service was wonderful and food was very nice...thanks so much.

Well catered for bigger groups of people. Friendly staff full of local patrons to share a beverage, watch sports and dine out.

The pricing is reasonable, not extravagant providing good value for your dollar.

The extra amenities such as the X-golf and games rooms provide an additional element to the cheerful atmosphere.

Very unhappy with the wheel chair toilets. We had 2 people in wheelchairs and in the women's the wheel chair fad to be lifted by two people to maneuver in and my 83 year old Mum had to walk past he urinal to take my 89 year father to the wheelchair cubical. The meal was lovely but it was cold in the restaurant unfortunately.

Never again, couldn't bring meals out at same time. Below average meal 300 gram rib eye, asked for med rare it was pretty much raw. Cold baked potato. Mushroom sauce was like water with some mushroom in it. Wife and daughters meal both rubbish as well.

Always a good feed, been here multiple times and never been disappointed.
Recommend the Sirloin with Whiskey peppercorn sauce and baked potato, although everything's good. Great staff and good selections of drinks.
