The meal was great. The service we had from the young lady when we first walked in was top-notch. we got our our dinner, which was quick service. One of the meals we found a bone in it when we told the lady she just said sorry and walked away. we got asked if we wanted dessert but was given no menus, and our plates still hadn't been removed when dessert arrived she had no room to put it on table then took some of the plates but never returned the spoon I got to eat my dessert was like a serving spoon it was way to big then when my son got his he didn't even get a spoon pretty bad service from the other waitress that was there.
Overall, nice meal just let down by the service of one team member I would say the owner of the place. Maybe you need to take a leaf out of your workers book on customer service.

You know you stop in these gorgeous towns and wonder where to get dinner.. Well for us this place is so good... The food is so yummy... I had loaded nachos... Huge plate.... He had stuffed chicken.... Fresh vegetables..... So done to perfection... Our waitress /bar girl was so nice... Highly recommend

Great vibes at this place. Big bar for a humble town with a smaller population. Great service from the local staff. Yes, it's definitely a great place to have a drink after beach.

Nice food & staff are very friendly. Only issue I personally had was with the bathrooms they are dirty, run down and bathroom floors were wet.

Steak eggs and chips $23. Great value, lovely piece of meat well cooked. Cold beers, what more do you need.

Went for a last minute dinner with the family. They were busy but could squeeze us in. We sat in the restaurant section.
Great selection of food, & not too much of a wait despite only having one server working. Would possibly have been easier on him if somebody in the bar could do the drinks instead as he was running back and forth.
Everyone was very happy with their meals, very reasonably priced too. Will definitely go back on our next stay in Opunake.

Both our meals were almost inedible, husband had seafood basket and this man never leaves food behind that he pays for. Over half of both our meals we left. Very very over cooked.

The friendliest local bar in NZ, Aunty Joan behind the bar welcomed us strangers to town ( there to have a Sister's in Arms gathering, past and present female Soldiers). The food was delicious and plentiful, free bar snacks, great raffles and fabulous hospitality by all locals and regulars! Thank you Opunake, the Surf Inn team and Kirst and Rach

As a local I can vouch for the consistent high quality of the food and service at the Surf Inn Restaurant. We've eaten here many times and it's always fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked with wonderful service!

Exquisite food. An amazing gem of a restaurant. The stuffed chicken breast was made to perfection, the squid rings were the freshest we've ever had and we looked past the decor and appreciate the incredible chef talent hiding in this little restaurant. Don't miss out.
