Private birthday dinner. Function room was cold and looked rushed in set up. Needed a better effort for a group of 16 paying customers. Staff turned heat on after we arrived and kept kitchen door open most of the evening. Waiting staff were average. Told at ordering time pizza was off menu because there was no cheese. Sister and I chose the $50 platter.. unbelievable rip off of size and quality. Realistically the platter was worth $25. Worst platter I've ever had. My personal review of my visit. The chowder looked like a winner. Definitely prefer the Realm in Hataitai for consistency and satisfaction

The food is really good and price is reasonable. We had a starter and pizza and a couple of ciders, so not too complicated an order. Table service was friendly and efficient although the tables felt a little close to each other. (Maybe background music could be used to create some faux privacy when the tables are all in use?) By 8:30pm the dining area was pretty empty. All in all a nice experience.

A lovely spot, pretty quiet (although the weather will have had something to do with that). Very friendly and welcoming staff. The food we had was great but not everything needs to be crumbed or battered.

It was very busy which means it's a popular venue however, the wait for our food was over an hour which is hard with hungry children. They ran out of sides & mains for two of our dishes twice but the waitress was honest & let us no & recommended an alternative.
The bar staff were nice as well.

Work dinner night @strathmorelocal

Last night, my colleagues and I decided to go somewhere local for a "goodbye for now" celebration at Strathmore Local.

Pretty cool that they do FREE UPSIZE for their burgers and steak on Monday nights. That means, extra onion rings, mushrooms and eggs. Nice deal!

We ordered burgers, pizzas and steak. Although I didn't taste the burgers and pizzas, by looking at them, the burgers looked pretty scrumptious (especially with the extra upsize bits), and the pizzas, let's say they looked like pub style pizzas rather than the Italian wood fired style!

My steak dish tho, it was okay! I loved the extra bits! The eggs, mushrooms and broccolini were all cooked to perfection, literally perfect! The steak however was just a bit tough. It was more on the medium well side rather than medium rare which I personally would prefer. The mash was okay, again with personal preference I'd probably liked it to be extra ultra buttery and creamy! And the sauce, the red wine jus - it tasted a little like gravy, and I couldn't quite taste the red wine. I bet though, it would taste amazing if it was with say... garlic butter, or peppercorn sauce.

Right - let's move onto the hospitality. 5 stars to the front of house staff Paris - who made us feel welcomed, putting in 110% effort to make sure we were looked after. Even though with only one chef in the kitchen for the night, I was impressed by how capable the chef was, looking after and cooking for 3 large tables at once - 2 x 10 diners as well as 7 of us, big well done and big clap for the staff.

Strathmore Local is a good spot for those who don't want to go all the way to the CBD, but just want to conveniently stroll down the street for a drink, or a casual night out.

Overall with the food and dining experience, it is currently a 3.5/5. However, with the little adjustments for the steak, mash and options for sauces, there is a potential for a good solid 4/5!

Our family was looking for dinner while we waited for a flight and headed here, not expecting much to be honest. However we were warmly greeted, and had great tasting and beautifully presented food. The staff were friendly and we'd all come back again.

My pasta was awful, chewy pasta spirals and no sauce. I asked for some sauce but there wasn't any. Couldn't finish it.
No green veg with roast pork, just potato and pumpkin.
Very poor service.. not once did anyone ask if we wanted a drink and we were never asked if we wanted dessert.

We were staying at a B&B, and this restaurant was recommended. We ended up pulling up, luckily we parked on the street on the way because as we walked up there was no parking available in their small lot.

The mirrored doors leading into the place was different.

We walked in and there were a few patrons, mostly drinking or playing billiards in the back. A staff member finally came out of the back and took a guy at the bar order. We were then seated after he was finished.

We ordered the fish and chips and the lamb shank. I assumed the lamb shank would be tender, fall off the bone. But it was tough. Didn't taste particular fresh, but then again I am not a normal lamb eater. I was not a fan. Barely any shallot taste or shallots. Found what looked like to be a regular onion slice. The green beans were canned or frozen, or they were parboiled before hand.

The fish and chips came with a small salad. No malt vinegar, only white vinegar that the other server brought out. Husband liked their tartar sauce and tomato with his fish. The fish tasted really fishy, which fish should not taste fishy, it should taste like the sea/ ocean. It should be a fresh flavor, not a lingering fish taste.

Staff were friendly and the fireplace was warm. The food, I could pass.
