I have just found THE best seafood chowder I have ever tasted! Crammed with seafood and packing a taste that trumps every seafood chowder I have ever tasted, the Rangiriri Hotel serves food that is absolutely fantastic!
The bar and kitchen staff are friendly, courteous and the chef's were happy to hear the positive feedback firsthand. What a great service staff!

Quick service, big meals, good atmosphere, pleasant friendly staff. Only had lunch there, didn't stay overnight. It's worth the drive for a meal and drink.

We popped in on our way home from Hamilton, on a recommendation from a friend,and we weren't disappointed. (I personally loved not having to book)the decor was warm and inviting with a lovely two sided fire and it was what you'd expect from a lovely old country pub...we had a deep fried camenbert starter, which we shared, and a pork belly and a steak main both were well cooked and generous, and delicious!! I'm looking forward to sitting outside under the veranda come summer...

If you want an old fashioned shrimp cocktail...it was the best!! The lettuce was fresh and overflowing with shrimps. My husband had the lamb shank and said it was outstanding

Stopped off here for dinner on our way to Auckland. Busy for a Tuesday night and could see why. The meals were delicious and big! Pork ribs were so good as was the seafood basket. No wait for our food which was even better.

The food was awesome, very large. Has a beautiful outdoor area as well. Great place for a family wanting to go to dinner.
Not to mention the staff, very friendly.

Restaurant offers pub style dishes. Highly recommend the lamb shanks. Lovely bar staff, food always on point. I've never stayed before but I have heard its nice.

Bloody Awesome. Megan deserves credit for her work. I was running very late after a very long day and had never been here before. Good communication, she came out and waved me down, had a fantastic late dinner for me, greeted me with a friendly smile. I even slept in the next morning the bed was so comfy. I liked the old school feel to the place.

This place never disappoints, we come along time and time again and have such a great experience. Love the chef, he is brilliant, meals are large but tasty and great quality

Meals are typical pub. Good sizes and reasonably cheap. The fact it is an important heritage site is really awesome.
The workmen are required to take their boots off before they enter this beautiful historic building. There is some historic land nearby about Maori land wars.

Had dinner there great location nice friendly staff. Scotch fillet steak meal was a 10+ from family members who loved and enjoyed there meals highly recommend.
Pork Ribs 1+ was dry and like chewing rubbing could see the minute after receiving it it wasn't appealing hopefully they see and read the experience shared and improved in that might have been a 1 off.

Never stayed there. But their friendly (And pretty) staff serve a great pint of Guinness . I love the feel of the place. And have stopped and had an occasional beer there ever since before 6 o'clock closing went out.

Don't come if you aren't hungry..The portions are huge. Biggest meals we have EVER seen. Typical pub food on offer..very tasty!!!
Well worth diverting off the motorway.

It was wonderful to visit this historic hotel for lunch. An extensive menu was offered and enjoyed by our party. Service was excellent. Will visit again.

Amazing burgers! Just had lunch on the deck outside in the garden bar. A great find on our travels .. highly recommended

I understand that sometimes it can be pretty busy at times with the restaurant being serviced by the bar staff however, it would be nice if the staff checked often to see if patrons on the other side in the sports bar area are being taken care of also. Quite often this area is unattended and customers are left standing in line for quite sometime waiting for services.

I have been calling into the Rangiriri since being a child. It's always been the same, great atmosphere, great food, awesome people. Last night I had the good fortune to dine there and again they totally exceeded my expectations for a country pub.

We've been coming here for three years, very occasionally and each time day it will be our last, but the only other option is to stay home and cook. It's one of the only eateries around.
Staff get a 5 rating. Friendly, warm and helpful.
Atmosphere gets a 5, since being redecorated and finally has the new carpet down. Looks good.
Menu gets a 2 as it hasn't changed in a very long time.
Food gets a 1, if you're lucky. Not cheap, poorly presented and certainly not good quality.
We ordered a rare steak and Thai chicken. Took an hour to arrive, but we were warned of that. Both meals were bland and colourless and the steak was well done. Took it back and waited another 15 minutes as you'd expect, but by that time I'd eaten my meal. So as for an enjoyable evening out for dinner, it would have to rate a 2. Ate separately. $85 bill, eating alone! But we'll probably be back, when we get desperate!!
