Truly the worst night's sleep I've had and I've slept in collapsed tents at muddy raining festivals! If it's not the noise of the pub and other local bars or depot it's the AC unit or other tapping. The room is either too hot (even with the windows open) or too cold (with the fan on). No tv in the room. Upon arrival the staff didn't explain how the keys worked, where my room was. When I asked about food they said the kitchen had closed early and the bar would also be shutting soon (it transpired the bar closed an hour later, despite being earlier than advertised) and any questions to the staff were met with frightened rabbit expressions. There weren't any obvious tea or coffee making facilities, no complimentary toiletries provided (other than the ones dumped in the men's communal shower left by previous guests). The bedroom also looked like a wild animal had been let loose in there and the beds were so uncomfortable. Surprised bedding and towels were provided. I stayed here considering it had recent good reviews and I rarely leave negative reviews but this place was a shambles. When I went out for food (I was told a takeaway would have to do) I found lots of local bars still open and serving so went there and then couldn't initially get back in. Another guest just happened to be returning at the same time as me and said that the code for the door was on my keys (again, not explained to me). We both enquired if we could have a night cap as we were guests, again frightened rabbit expressions from the two staff and they said they'd closer to the last customers 30 minutes ago. Ironically I'd have given the place more money if I wasn't told the bar was shutting and would have probably got a takeout if that was the case. Seriously, avoid this place. Needs serious retraining and revamping. Don't let it ruin your trip or visit to hobbiton.

Never had such an awful experience. The rooms have not be cleaned, towels on the ground, food on the table, not mentioning unchanged sheets....Whilst rooms were confirmed by Booking, they claimed no booking was made and even tried to make us paying twice.....We rapidly escaped and found and Airbnb nearby. Avoid!

Overnight at the hotel with dinner. The room was spacious, but warm with no air conditioning. The shared bathrooms were clean. Noise from the bar area downstairs kept me up late, but this was during holiday time and may be expected? Staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking limited. An okay birthday experience.

The decor is a bit dated but nice enough. The menu is what you would expect in a small town and it was delicious. We enjoyed our meal there. It's under new management and is a step up from what it used to be.

We had a family room for one night. The staff are amazing, friendly and made us feel the most welcomed since we had arrived in NZ from Australia. The food is second to none. Shared amenities but not an issue. Very clean and comfortable. Would definitely visit again when in the area.

The staff were not welcoming accomodating and down right lazy! We waited an entire hour for our meals had to go ask when they were coming, we had a child with us and they bought out her kids meal last on top of that. No apology no follow up that food wouldn't be far away..they weren't even at the bar we were just sitting in the place by ourselves, then we saw a staff member sitting out by pool table eating her lunch while there was a table that hadn't been cleared of dishes and old food. Went up to the bar to ask for takeaway containers she said hangon she had to sort an order, then left bar never came back out or didn't bother bring any containers, wrapped our food in napkins and left, will never return just sad, and we supported because we heard it was maori owned. Unacceptable treatment just pure laziness and no care at all.

Friendly and chatty staff serving meals and drinks. Delicious mussels and pork belly and chips. Just a little bit too salty. Normal chef was away, we were told.

Char bacon tasted burnt. Banana well over cooked. Maple syrup drizzled all over plate instead of in a dish to put on pancakes. Pancakes only good thing. Husbands breakfast missing hash rows. Disappointing. Server was great though

Very impressed with the food here. Group of 15 came in for lunch last Friday, we ordered our meals 10 minutes before the kitchen closed. The food was excellent! Decent portions, well presented, perfectly cooked, and very reasonably priced. I highly recommend having lunch here.

My partner took me here for a meal at the beginning of the month for my birthday. The staff were friendly and attentive. The meals were very nice. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I ordered a chicken roulade and it came covered in a mushroom gravy. This doesn't state this on the menu and I really dislike mushrooms 😕

Food was really disappointing. Very small portions and not worth the price. Kids meals were amazing however.
The wife of the owner was serving us all night and was amazing! She was really friendly and went above and beyond
