Last year on my birthday my mother asked for a cocktail (she's Maori) and the blonde bar lady said they're not making cocktails for the night. She then proceeded to go to the table next to us, all pākeha, who asked for cocktails (5 to be exact) in which she looked over at our table while they're all having a laugh & then took the order. While she was making them, she kept looking over at us while we were watching her make them & serve the drinks to their table while my mum & brother were only allowed tap beer. Tonight my mother went in and the bar lady made up more excuses as to why she couldn't make her a cocktail. Then she had a debate with my mother if she even had a booking which is a whole other story. If the owners would like to hear it, please reply I'd be happy to let you know what happened. The whole thing left my mum feeling so angry she didn't even want to be on a date with my dad at that establishment anymore. My family has been going to this establishment for years & it's crazy that she always has an excuse as to why we can't have cocktails. I love Mary & the rest of the staff but the bar maid always has an excuse as to why my family cannot order cocktails. It's your job to make drinks, our money pays your wages, if you don't like making drinks & serving WITH A SMILE, you're in the wrong job love. You don't need to be rude & dismissive to us but then chat along with a big grin to boys half your age when we leave the bar. I didn't even want to make this review but since your attitude hasn't changed in the time you've worked there, I feel it's right to do so. We're kind people, we were understanding in the beginning but it's getting old now.

The food was quite nice here, super tasty pizzas! The service was pretty average though. The lady who served us was grumpy and wasn't very nice. I asked for something and I didn't even get a reply just a grump and then she went and got it. But other than the service this is a lovely restaurant!

Loved the rustic surroundings! Quick efficient service and well presented food. An adequate selection of dishes on the menu with everyone in the party enjoying their meal.

A lovely restaurant on the outskirts of katikati. We had some great steaks, cooked to perfection and really tasty. The girls shared a Mediterranean pizza, which was loaded with toppings. A very enjoyable evening.

Great atmosphere and interesting decor and loved the doll exhibition upstairs. However the bar service on that particular day left us disappointed when the bar lady barked out that she wasn't there to make cocktails with a hundred people to serve! We were one group of 30 and only a couple wanted a cocktail and were happy to wait. She had zero bar personality and should learn some bar skills.

Cool 'old inn' atmosphere, great food (shanks recommended), staff very attentive and friendly. Super impressed. Will be back. Good vibe

Very cool restaurant. The outside sitting area is awesome and the inside is spacious. The service was good. We ordered 2 pizzas and the garlic bread which were quite disappointing. I would go back on a sunny day just to sit under the big trees and try something else but unfortunately I would not recommend the pizza.

A visit down memory lane! Forta Leza was our 'local' when we lived in the area. Still full of character.....like entering a time warp. Something different! Winter time ideal, with the fire roaring, and having lamb shanks for dinner. Nice outdoor garden area in the summer.??'???"

Staff were great. We wanted to move tables into the other room due to noise and they quickly sorted it out. The food was great. Steak cooked well and was tender. Pudding was lovely. Atmosphere was friendly and loved looking at all the old stuff. I would recommend anyone checking this out.

Base are not made in house but typical of a supermarket bought base. Basically like toppings on a pre manufactured biscuit like base.
Expectation in a pizza restaurant is that the Pizza base and toppings are cooked fresh.Basically all the Five star comments about the pizzas seam a bit suspect.Toppings we're good, A cooked on site base would change everything.

This place is one of my favorites in NZ!! It's so quirky and well put together! Pizza is delicious and the service is always on point!! Definitely pop in on your way past.

Highly recommend Cajun Chicken Salad.

I had the chicken loin meal $32. The chicken had been cooked hours before - came out of a 'warmer' only luke warm, dry and stringy. Chips were good, as was the salad. Interesting decor.

Love the character of this place. Some old world charm. Friendly staff, great menu and drinks menu.

Had the best shrimp cocktail (super 80's but fab) loaded with shrimps. And the pizza was fantastic. Service at the bar and table was great! Super friendly and helpful. Something that's lacking greatly in other places I've been. Loved this place! Will be back

We can't thank Mary and Hayden enough for helping make our wedding reception such an awesome time!! Mary handled all the details and took a load off my shoulders. The food was great, all our guests commented on the amazing quality and taste of the pizzas and chips, delicious!! Thanks again, we will be back x

What an unexpected delight on Highway 2, we drive past it daily, it's like old English pub meets NZ wild west. We had the pizza, it was huge. I had the vegetarian pizza - one of the best I've had, took half of it home in a box. Ciders & beers on tap. Definitely coming back. Roaring log burner on a chilly day was wonderful.
