A friendly wee pub that I've visited many times over the past 18 years. The staff may have changed, but the locals haven't, and that's a good sign! Staff were friendly, premises were okay but a little outdated. They serve zero alcohol beers, which I liked. Would visit again.

Worst place I have EVER stayed. I was discussed when I seen the room . The bed sheets were dirty and looked like they had been slept in already. When I pulled back the duvet cover the bed sheets had hairs on it . The decor was appalling, the wallpaper was hanging off the walls and some held together with sellotape. The curtains were ripped and in rag order. The room/bathroom was so so cold , even with the heaters on . There was a heated blanket on the bed that also had little to no heat in it . Only for it was late at night and quite cold out I would have rathered sleep in the truck. The bed was unhygienic and grubby. Hotel is so outdated . Really in need of a revamp..

The place was dirty - spider webs, food residue on walls etc. but I kind of expected that from the other reviews and wouldn't have minded so much, but the final straw was finding out in the morning that we slept on a sheet with bloodstains on it. It made us feel sick seeing that, and worse the sheet seemed to have been taken/donated from a hospital. I have no idea why a hospital bedsheet would be used at a motel. Also, the motel seems to be used as a hangout place for the owner's friends, which seems odd/unprofessional as well as annoying, as I could hear them through the night and in the morning. I contacted the owner to complain about the bedsheet and he said he would organise a refund - but he kept avoiding the issue, coming up with any excuse possible to avoid the call. He advised that he had covid and he will look into the issue afterwards and when I called again the week after, he said he still had covid and he didn't call me since. Absolutely filthy, borderline bio-hazardous place with a gutless owner to match.

Good price-quality ratio. Got there for 2 nights and got upgraded for the first night (had to go back to the booked room category for the second night). The kitchen is really small and almost unusable. Plan to go eat somewhere else. Would probably go there again if i go back to Alexandra.

First time back for over 25 years. Hasn't changed much. Like most other things not quite as good as remembered from the OLD days.

For the price you pay.. It kind of tells you before you arrive its going to be a
tavern stay. My bed was comfortable, staff were great. Didn't get kept awake by noise (Thurs night). Could see they are trying to upgrade. My room had fresh towels, curtains good. Thanks guys, kitchen clean and coffee appreciated.
My 4 star based on comfortable, not decor. At least for drivers who need a pillow, they offer an affordable nights rest.

A simple town with simple hotels. Criterion club hotel is not in tune with the Tao. Cramped, peeling rooms filled with the sounds of frequent bar mongrels made Mr Chow and his companions most uncomfortable. Poor network security too. Owners must not become too complacent if they want to succeed in the competitive hotel business. 1⭐

Will never stay there again
This "hotel" looks like it has suffered decades of neglected and lack of investment. room with peeling wall paper, dripping shower taps. spiderwebs, bugs, heater that fails to heat the room on a mild night in September. To top it off i had the worst night sleep, due to drunken loughs down stairs in the pub area, ( i suspected were managers mates) waken we up early morning,2-4am despite the pub beaning closed at 9pm and it was a Monday night for gods sake. I would have been better of sleeping in my truck, not worth it never again.

Incredibly good value for money
Friendly staff. Quiet wee spot in the off-season (Late- May)
Modern and tidy amenities.
Comfortable and warm living quarters.
Good lock on door and felt safe as a solo female traveller.

Could not be more disappointed. Ordered one bowl of wedges at 12pm, at 12.35 the bowl had still not arrived. Initially we were told only the bar menu was available, pretty poor for a local pub at prime lunch time on a weekend in peak season. The place is filthy, service slow and rude. There was another couple that seemingly had been waiting a very long time, and had checked on meals twice before almost walking out.
We asked for a refund and left. No apology. Will not be back.
