A fantastic local pub. Have been coming for years for the great food, service and atmosphere. Enjoy having a chat with the friendly staff. Lots of screens for rugby, league etc. Would thoroughly recommend.

Great food, love there pizza, has a nice thin base full of flavour, service good, would like to try there other dishes next time

Have specific dietary requirements and couldn't cater for me so I brought my own meal but still wanted to have drinks with my friends. I was told I was lying about my condition by the owner and then told by another waiter that I had to leave. I made contact after the event to try and resolve the issue and have not been contacted back. Was treated so rudely and disrespectfully. I have never encountered this anywhere else with my specific health/ dietary restrictions.

Great place in Howick for a drink and a meal. Staff are friendly and great atmosphere. Parking is plentiful around the premise. They have various specials for different days of the week. Particularly love their Steak Night on Thursdays. Generous servings and very well priced. Ask for rare if you like your steak medium-rare.

Encountered the rudest bar staff member last night. Walked in and we were 5 steps in and he yelled at us to get out from the other side of the room.

He profiled us as we were part of a Hen's party. At that time there were 3 of us only. He was abnoxious and rude and embarrassed the bride in front of the 4 customers in the bar.

Had he not been so disrespectful he would of ended up with around 15 people going there for a drink but instead we made sure to tell every bar we encountered after that the rude service we had received and were told that's common there.. hence why all the other bars were full and the Barrel Inn was almost empty.

I wish I could leave no stars but that's impossible, so I give you a 1.
We went last night to Barrel Inn. We were there for a substantial amount of time. We went up to the bar at least 40 minutes before 10pm and I asked for a long island iced tea. The bar tender said "I can't be bothered making you one". Then I asked for a tequila sunrise and he said he couldn't be bothered making it for me either, sorry. What kind of bartender can't be bothered making drinks?!? That's like a doctor refusing to save someone's life because "he can't be bothered". The older lady working was incredibly rude. My friend was slightly intoxicated and she refused to give her water and said they were closing now (before 10pm) although once we left, people were still sitting outside the bar for at least another 20 minutes. She could have given her 4 glasses of water in that time. I get it, the staff were mad they had to work after New year's day, but it doesn't excuse the horrible attitudes they gave us. We were willing to spend quite a bit of money there, and will keep in mind to never come back again.

I love this Irish restaurant and bar. Thursday steak night is an awesome deal. We had a good time here. Steak cooked perfect. Wine was tasty. The atmosphere was perfect for friends gathering.

Iconic must do when travelling through. Awesome vibe and food is absolutely incredible. Best Steak and Guinness pie & Seafood Chowder around! Staff are lovely and welcoming. Always stop off here when travelling from Overseas 🙌🏽 Thankyou for a wonderful experience everytime!

Came here for lunch one weekday afternoon after hearing good reviews about their seafood chowder. Place was fairly empty I guess given its a bar and we are there on a weekday afternoon. Ordered the seafood chowder and a fish and chips. Both dishes were quite good and the seafood chowder was nice but just a tad bit too salty. Service was pretty good so will probably come back at some point.

Lovely place! Adults and young mingled together, even children!! Lovely environment!! Yummy food and varied!! Soon I'm going back there for sure. Strongly recommend to visit Barrel Inn??'?

The fries were crunchy and delicious. But the meals overall were underwhelming. Pork roast was tough and chewy and beef patty quite tasteless.

Scrumptious food, 10/10 customer service, super chill atmosphere. I love a good old fashioned pub like this one. Definitely coming back for a couple more brewskies soon!
